We travel to the coast for a 1000 hours ferry – through the Friday morning rush hour via the M25. If we’re early, we’re early – if we’re late we miss the boat !

Rule of thumb budget £50 per day food and drink etc 

+ ferry (£30 each), petrol (£30 each ?), and B&B (18 euros a night each – total e54 each)

Dominated by the oldest inhabited castle in Europe, the country towns of Windsor and Eton make an easy excursion from London. Windsor Castle has been the scene of many hauntings but since the majority of these are in areas that are inaccessible to the public, overed are only those that can be seen from the town itself.

Eton is the home to England’s top public school, Eton College. Its High Street is lined with delightful buildings from all ages, and there are numerous dark and sinister alleyways that lead to some extremely spooky back streets.

Highlights of the walk include a stroll through Windsor Great Park and Windsor Guildhall, a 15th-century building where there is a gruesome reminder of Eton’s past as well as magnificent views of the castle itself.

Start :- Queen Victoria’s Statue, Castle Hill, outside Windsor Castle
Finish :- Windsor and Eton Riverside.

Distance :- 2 ¾ miles (4.35 km).
Duration  :-1 ¾ hours

• The 2013 hours train from Sunningdale, with a change at Staines arrives at Windsor Riverside at 2051 hours.
• The 2323 hours train from Windsor Riverside arrives at Sunningdale at 0010 hours.

So, the walk is do able BUT leave no time to drink. So – Start earlier OR taxi home.

An evening in the Royal Oak

We’ve had a chat with Sailor Dave the occassional drinker, globe trotting tourist and sometime tour guide. Looking for a date next year we’ve plucked out (we’ve decided upon) May Day weekend. That’s Friday the 30th of April till Monday the 3rd. To remind you of the last trip visit -
